Business Excellence:The LEGO Game of Money Making
The ultimate goal of business organisations is to make money for the owners. The author outlines the responsibilities of managers in relation to that, and their options to control the organisation and ensure money making. The conclusion is that process management is a must for managers and has several benefits for employees too. The article gives a high level overview of implementing process management in practice, techniques to be used, and its interrelation with strategy and benchmarking. Business excellence and specifically the EFQM Excellence Model is discussed as a method to achieve long term business success.

Philips Improvement Competition
The Improvement Competition is Philips’s secret for employee engagement and companywide learning. Based on the hot topics defined by the management, all employees engage in thousands of team-based improvement projects which are pitted against one another in an exciting series of local, regional and global finals. Managers are subsequently involved in assessing the projects, according to defined criteria, and play a fundamental role when it comes to reward the teams and celebrate with them the achievements of the initiative.

Evaluating Leadership Across Organisations
This chapter reviews multilevel, organisation-wide and multiple-response data collection as a means of defining and evaluating leadership. This approach provides a rigorous form of leadership evaluation that can ameliorate the disconnected nature of leadership theory and research. We discuss advantages and disadvantages of this process. We call for the development of questionnaires in electronic format if quantitative leadership research is to respond successfully to the demand for this form of data collection.
